Workout Wednesday: Recharging Your Workout Routine

There are definitely times when I get less-than-motivated with my workout routine. I try to switch it up pretty often but I have certain weeks where it takes all of my energy to get a workout in. This week has been one of those weeks as the craziness of life often gets in the way of enjoying exercise. Here are a few tips that help me to stick with it and recharge my usual routine so that I stay motivated no matter what my schedule!

Sign up for a race– Having a goal to train for really helps me to stay focused and committed to a training schedule. Whether it be a 5k, 10k, half-marathon, or Ironman having a race to train for can really recharge your routine!

Try out a new group exercise class- There are so many classes offered at my gym but I tend to only go to my few favorites (Cycling, Body Pump, Yoga). Trying out a new class keeps working out in a group setting more exciting and interesting and you may even meet some new friends in the process!

Find a new running route- Whenever I run the same 3-4 mile loop day-after-day I might as well be on a treadmill. Exploring new routes around the city makes me excited to explore the sights and sounds while I get in some miles.

Mix up your cardio- Breaking up cardio routines into 10 or 15 minute increments can really make an indoor workout fly by! My favorite “mix-it-up” routine consists of 10 minutes on the treadmill, stairmaster, stationary bike, and elliptical. Whew…

Update your workout playlist– I get SO excited to go for a run when I have a fresh playlist ready to go!

Take a REST day- If you are finding that you are overly exhausted and just thinking about exercising makes you tired, you may need to take a rest day, especially if you are working out consistently 6-7 days a week. Rest days are just as important as workout days!
